Dow Corning Launches New Portfolio of Topical Ingredients to Help Customers Advance Innovations in Consumer Health Care Applications

Dow Corning, a global leader in silicones, silicon-based technology and innovation, unveiled at the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists’ (AAPS) 2015 Annual Meeting and Exhibition its new industry-leading Dow Corning® Topical Ingredients portfolio. The new ingredients have been designed to help customers drive innovations in topical over-the-counter (OTC) and medical device products that treat scars, stretch marks, acne and other skin conditions, and support their needs for compliance with increasing regulatory requirements. Dow Corning Topical Ingredients are produced at defined manufacturing sites with healthcare oversight, audits and testing to assure quality. This broad portfolio extends beyond traditional fluids to include many other products, from resins to blends and specialty fluids.

“Consumers are putting stronger emphasis on health and wellness, and are demanding more choices to address minor ailments and appearance issues that they previously ignored,” said Feifei Lin, North America Drug Delivery Market segment leader, Dow Corning. “To help customers take advantage of this trend, our new Topical Ingredients portfolio enables innovation in high-performance products and supports regulatory compliance.”

With a fully integrated supply chain and more than 60 years of experience in the health care industry, Dow Corning offers solutions, expertise, quality and compliance support for topical applications.

Regulatory Compliance Support & Quality Assurance

Ingredient Regulatory –Information Package and elemental impurities testing are aligned with industry requirements, and a Summary of Health Data or Opinion Letter is provided to support product registration.

Fluids & Much More

The new Dow Corning Topical Ingredients family is currently comprised of 19 solutions that offer unprecedented choice and enable a variety of product forms and textures, including gels, sprays, lotions and creams. Unlike competitive offerings that often are limited to fluids, the new Dow Corning portfolio includes blends, resins, a wax and an emulsifier, in addition to multiple fluid and specialty fluid grades. These materials range from non-occlusive to semi-occlusive, offer long-lasting effects and deliver enhanced spreading performance and sensory aesthetics.

Noteworthy ingredients include:

Dow Corning® TI-7012 Solid Resin – A film former that creates a permeable, breathable film with excellent resistance to wash-off and sebum. It is long-lasting and non-occlusive.

Dow Corning® TI-7021 Silicone Resin Blend – A non-occlusive film former, this product is a pourable liquid for ease of formulation.

Dow Corning® TI-4021 Semi-Occlusive Wax – A unique product that acts as a rheology and texture modifier as well as a structuring agent. It provides wash-off resistance and is highly compatible with silicone and organic materials.

Dow Corning® TI-3021 Silicone Elastomer Blend – A rheology modifier and thickener for anhydrous gels and water-in-oil (W/O) emulsions offering enhanced sensory aesthetics. It provides a velvety, non-greasy, non-tacky experience.

To assist formulators, Dow Corning has created several representative formulations that feature Dow Corning Topical Ingredients. These include, but are not limited to, a non-tacky UV scar gel, a protective scar gel and a substantive scar gel; a stretch mark spray; SiCAR ointment and SiCAR camouflage; and Centi-cream containing Centella asitica extract.
