3M Hosted Innovation Symposium on Drug Delivery

Approximately 100 industry leaders, advocates, regulators, and academic community members stepped away from their projects on Thursday, June 12, to take part in the Catalent Institute’s Innovation Symposium, hosted at the 3M Innovation Center in St. Paul, MN. The event, titled An Innovation Showcase: Advanced Drug Delivery Approaches for Small and Large Molecules, offered attendees a close look into the most effective and innovative approaches and technologies for improving drug bioavailability, insights on patient compliance, and design of drugs and medical systems to deliver better outcomes.

Catalent Institute Executive Director Terry Robinson, along with Catalent Institute’s Dr. Kurt Nielsen and 3M’s Dr. Steve Wick, opened the event by welcoming attendees and promising “expert insights to help overcome the complex drug delivery challenges they face.” Featured speakers included experts from 3M, Catalent, Hovione, Agere, Lipp Life Sciences, and Xhale, presenting about bioavailability enhancements tools and advances in drug delivery methods. A lively Q&A period followed each of the various sessions and an expert panel discussion closed the event talking about the evolving drug delivery landscape.

Today’s experts and tomorrow’s future leaders had a chance to interact with one another during multiple networking breaks, while the World of Innovation tour by 3M provided everyone with a spark of ingenuity to help set the tone for a successful educational meeting. 3M Drug Delivery System’s President and General Manager Cindy Kent summed it up best, “Based on attendance, advanced drug delivery is clearly a hot topic both with industry and academia, and the presentations and resulting discussions yielded many excellent answers, as well as posing interesting new challenges.”
