Pathos AI Partners With Bristol Myers Squibb and Tempus to Apply AI to Alzheimer's Drug Development

Key Points

  • Pathos AI, Bristol Myers Squibb and Tempus AI will use AI and longitudinal patient data to advance Alzheimer's and neurological drug development.
  • Tempus will assemble a de-identified dataset covering hundreds of thousands of neurological patients, licensed to Pathos for five years at $55 million.
  • BMS gains three-year exclusive rights to Pathos Foundry for neuroscience programs and led Pathos's Series E financing.

Pathos AI is joining forces with Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) and Tempus AI to use artificial intelligence and large-scale patient data to advance drug development for Alzheimer’s disease and other neurological conditions. The multi-year collaborations will combine Tempus’s data infrastructure, Pathos’s agentic AI platform and BMS’s neuroscience research and clinical development capabilities. The goal is to improve understanding of disease progression, identify patients more likely to respond to treatment and inform the design of more targeted clinical trials.

Under the agreement, Tempus will assemble a de-identified, longitudinal dataset covering hundreds of thousands of patients with neurological conditions. The dataset is intended to capture patient outcomes over time, providing researchers with a broader foundation for investigating disease biology. Pathos will license the data under a five-year agreement valued at $55 million.

Pathos plans to analyze the dataset using Foundry, its AI-powered drug development platform, to generate and evaluate hypotheses about disease mechanisms and help guide clinical trial planning. The company developed its approach in oncology, where its technology supports decisions across its clinical-stage pipeline, including adjustments to trial design as new evidence emerges.

BMS will contribute its neuroscience expertise and drug development capabilities, with an initial focus on Alzheimer’s disease and other neurological disorders. The collaboration gives BMS three-year exclusive rights to use Pathos Foundry in support of its neuroscience development programs, alongside non-exclusive strategic access to the platform across its wider research and development portfolio.

The agreements also coincide with BMS leading Pathos’s Series E financing. The investment reflects BMS’s broader interest in integrating AI and data science into drug discovery and development, with the aim of improving decision-making and advancing precision medicine.

“Neurological diseases demand more than any one company can bring on its own: the best longitudinal data, AI that can reason over it at scale, and the drug development expertise to turn insight into medicines,” says Iker Huerga, CEO of Pathos AI. He said the collaborations bring together these capabilities as the company works to build a system that can adapt clinical trials and improve the likelihood of development success.

BMS also highlights the importance of pairing AI with high-quality data and scientific expertise. Simon Davies, the company’s senior vice president and head of data and quantitative sciences, said the collaboration could help researchers better characterize disease progression, refine clinical trial design and identify opportunities to advance new treatments.

For Tempus, the partnership extends its data-driven approach beyond oncology. Founder and CEO Eric Lefkofsky says combining the company’s data infrastructure with Pathos’s AI technology and BMS’s research expertise could help uncover new insights into Alzheimer’s disease.

The collaborations reflect growing efforts across the biopharmaceutical industry to use AI not only to identify potential drug candidates, but also to address challenges in clinical development. By linking longitudinal patient data with computational analysis and therapeutic expertise, the companies aim to generate evidence that could support more informed development decisions in neurological diseases, where treatment advances remain urgently needed.
