InnoGI Technologies Launches TIM Cell to Bridge the Gap Between Bioaccessibility and Absorption
Delft, The Netherlands, InnoGI Technologies announced the launch of TIM Cell, a novel apparent permeability service designed specifically to work with TIM intestinal fluids (TIF). By combining biorelevant gastro-intestinal simulation with dynamic intestinal permeability assessment, TIM Cell helps bridge the gap between bioaccessibility and absorption in oral drug development.
Understanding how a drug dissolves in the gastrointestinal tract is only part of the challenge. To accurately predict oral drug performance, researchers must also understand whether the active ingredient can cross the intestinal barrier and become available for absorption. TIM Cell is developed to address this critical need by enabling apparent permeability measurements at physiologically relevant intestinal concentrations generated by The TIM platform.
The service combines TIM generated intestinal fluids with gold-standard Caco-2 cells in a dynamic organ-on-a-chip environment using MIVO technology from React4Life. Unlike conventional static permeability assays, TIM Cell incorporates continuous flow conditions and physiological intestinal features, including mucus and an extracellular matrix that supports cell differentiation, providing a more biorelevant assessment of intestinal permeability.
“By combining TIM bioaccessibility data with dynamic permeability assessment, researchers can gain deeper insights into absorption mechanisms and make more informed decisions earlier in development.” Dr. Maitrayee Chatterjee, Sr. Scientist and Technical Product Manager
TIM Cell enables accurate assessment of intestinal permeability to evaluate oral drug absorption, rank formulations, support candidate selection, and reduce late-stage development risks. The platform is particularly valuable for low permeability compounds.
The launch of TIM Cell expands The TIM Platform, which combines advanced in vitro and in silico technologies to simulate the gastro-intestinal tract and beyond. Together with TIM Upper GI, TIM Colon, and TIM PK, TIM Cell provides researchers with a comprehensive toolbox to study drug release, dissolution, permeability, absorption, and systemic exposure using human-relevant methodologies.
As the pharmaceutical industry continues to embrace New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) and seek more predictive alternatives to traditional testing approaches, TIM Cell provides a new opportunity to generate physiologically relevant permeability data while supporting more informed and efficient drug development strategies.
