AbbVie has announced it will acquire Apogee Therapeutics

AbbVie has announced it will acquire Apogee Therapeutics for approximately $10.9 billion in an all-cash transaction, gaining access to zumilokibart, a late-stage immunology asset with the potential to reshape treatment for atopic dermatitis and asthma.

The acquisition strengthens AbbVie’s leadership in immunology and inflammation while adding a promising Phase III candidate that could offer a significant dosing advantage over current standard-of-care therapies.

Key Highlights:

$10.9B all-cash acquisition of clinical-stage biotech Apogee Therapeutics

Gains access to zumilokibart, a Phase III IL-13 antibody being developed for moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis

Phase II data showed approximately two-thirds of patients achieved significant skin clearance at 16 weeks

Potential maintenance dosing as infrequently as once every 3-6 months, compared with biweekly injections for current market-leading therapies

Adds APG273, a next-generation asthma programme combining zumilokibart with a TSLP-targeting antibody

Expands AbbVie’s immunology pipeline and supports long-term growth beyond existing blockbuster franchises

As competition intensifies in immunology, AbbVie is making a decisive move to secure what could become a differentiated next-generation therapy in eczema and asthma.

If successful in Phase III, zumilokibart’s combination of strong efficacy and dramatically reduced dosing frequency could make it one of the most important new entrants in the inflammatory disease market.
