Credence MedSystems’ Innovative Companion Safety Syringe System Earns Multiple Industry Awards
Credence MedSystems, Inc. recently announced the Credence Companion Safety Syringe System has received a major industry honor at the Drug Delivery Partnerships Annual Conference in Boca Raton, FL. The Companion won the Drug Delivery
Innovation Award for Best and Most Innovative Advancements in Drug Delivery from the past year in the category of Technology Innovation. The Companion was named for the award by conference attendees, composed of pharmaceutical executives, industry partners, and key opinion leaders in the world of drug delivery.
“This is a very important milestone for the company,” said Jeff Shanley, Credence’s CEO. “When industry peers recognize your work, it is especially gratifying. Along with the traction we are seeing with pharmaceutical manufacturers, this honor further validates our Innovation Without Change approach.”
The Credence Companion Safety Syringe System originated from Credence’s core philosophy of Innovation Without Change. Because the Companion builds around the foundation of any existing prefilled syringe and components to provide a best-in-class injection device, pharmaceutical manufacturers can launch their drugs in a differentiated delivery device with a vastly simplified commercialization path and greatly reduced risk profile. The Companion has disrupted the paradigm for launching drugs in advanced delivery systems.
The Companion Syringe offers integrated, passive needlestick prevention for any length needle. At the end of the injection, the user is provided end-of-dose cues, and then the needle automatically retracts into the barrel of the syringe, thereby permanently disabling the syringe. The Companion is flexible to the specific needs of the application. It is available with a pre-attached “staked” needle or a luer connection needle, and because adhesive is not present in the system, the significant risk of unwanted interaction between the drug substance and adhesive is removed.
Credence also announced the Companion Safety Syringe System was honored with First Prize in the Innovation Awards at the Pharmapack Europe conference in Paris. This comes less than two weeks after the Companion won the award for the Best and Most Innovative Advancement in Drug Delivery at the Drug Delivery Partnerships.
Pharmapack Europe traditionally attracts over 350 exhibitors and over 3,100 visitors all focused on packaging and drug delivery technology for the pharmaceutical industry. The Companion was judged by a panel of industry experts to be the most innovative technology in the exhibitor category.
“This is a great honor for the entire company and specifically the inventors on the development team,” said Jeff Tillack, Credence’s COO. “The fact that it has happened just days after the DDP award adds to the excitement. The awards have come alongside the launch of our new Staked Needle version of the Companion.
We are really pleased with the feedback.”
A staked, or pre-attached, needle minimizes the steps a user must take before injecting and eliminates the chances of error when connecting a needle. The Credence system allows the needle to come pre-attached, but does not include the glue that conventional syringes use to hold the needle in place. This eliminates the risk of unwanted and unsafe interaction between the glue and the liquid drug. At the end of the injection, the needle retracts back into the barrel of the syringe rendering the syringe auto-disabled and safe from needlesticks.
Whether with the pre-attached needle version or the user-attached needle (luer) version, the Companion uses existing pre-filled syringe and primary drug package components in order to avoid much of the development and regulatory challenges commonly associated with drug delivery products. The result is a best-in-class drug
delivery device with a simplified path to market for pharmaceutical and biotech companies.
Credence MedSystems is a medical technology and specialty pharmaceutical company focused on delivering medications safely for the benefit of its patients, caregivers, and partners. The Credence Companion Safety Syringe System combines passive retractable needle safety with a modular approach that leaves the primary drug container unchanged, a major advantage for pharmaceutical and biotechnology partners. Credence is also developing the expertise to provide customers single-dose injectable medications in prefilled syringes. For more information, visit www.credencemed.com.
