Nottingham, UK-based pharmaceutical development and manufacturing company Upperton Pharma Solutions has introduced a new brand identity as it enters a new stage of growth, positioning itself as a specialist contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO). The company announced the rebrand at CPHI Milan, highlighting the expansion of its capabilities and its growing role in supporting drug developers from early formulation work through clinical development and commercial manufacturing.
Upperton’s transformation has been underpinned by investment in its facilities, scientific capabilities and manufacturing infrastructure. A key part of that expansion has been the development of its 60,000-square-foot Trent Gateway facility in Nottingham. The company has also expanded its leadership team and added sterile manufacturing to its existing capabilities in oral, nasal and pulmonary drug products.
According to Upperton, the changes are intended to give pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies access to formulation development, analytical services, clinical manufacturing and commercial-scale production through a single development and manufacturing partner.
Nikki Whitfield, CEO of Upperton, says the new identity reflects how the business has changed in recent years. “We have evolved into a specialist end-to-end CDMO with the scientific expertise, infrastructure and manufacturing capabilities needed to support increasingly complex drug development programs.”
Whitfield says demand is increasing for development partners able to work across different stages of the drug development process, particularly as companies pursue more complex small-molecule and biologic medicines. She adds that maintaining continuity between development and manufacturing can be particularly important for companies working on innovative formulations and delivery technologies.
Upperton’s current capabilities cover oral solid-dose products as well as nasal, pulmonary and sterile drug products. Its services are designed to support programs across different stages of development, including formulation development, analytical work and clinical trial manufacturing. The company says its single-site model can help customers retain technical knowledge as programs progress and reduce some of the risks associated with transferring work between multiple suppliers.
The rebrand comes as Upperton targets further growth in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology markets. Its focus remains on supporting companies developing complex drug products while providing a route from formulation and development work through to larger-scale manufacturing. Upperton Pharma Solutions specializes in pharmaceutical formulation development and clinical trial manufacturing. Its expertise covers a range of dosage forms, including oral solids, liquids, semi-solids and inhalation products.
