Vetter Adds New Commercial Manufacturing Capacity as Global Network Expands

Vetter is expanding its global commercial manufacturing footprint as part of a long-term investment program aimed at increasing fill-and-finish capacity and providing pharmaceutical and biotechnology customers with additional production options. The CDMO plans to add 10 commercial filling lines across its network. The expansion is intended to increase manufacturing flexibility, strengthen supply continuity and provide additional capacity as demand for injectable medicines develops.

The first of the 10 new lines is already in operation. The line is designed for filling pre-sterilized syringes, while a second line is scheduled to begin operations before the end of the year. Seven of the planned lines will be introduced at Vetter’s existing manufacturing locations. In addition to the two lines already underway, five additional lines supporting aseptic production are planned through 2028.

The company is also preparing for the next stage of its network expansion at a new commercial manufacturing facility in Saarlouis, Germany. Three of the planned filling lines will be located at the site, which Vetter expects to bring into operation by 2031.

“Pharma and biotech companies seek partners with a proven track record, operational expertise, and the capabilities to support their current and future drug products,” says Vetter Managing Director Henryk Badack. “This demand is reflected in our strategy for sustainable growth. Through our ongoing investments, we are expanding our global manufacturing resources and strengthening our ability to support customers throughout the lifecycle of their products in international markets.”

Vetter’s investment program also encompasses infrastructure and supporting capabilities across its manufacturing network. Projects currently underway include additional capacity for compounding, pharmaceutical storage and visual inspection, alongside upgrades involving cleanroom technology. The company is also increasing the use of automation and digital technologies within its operations.

According to Managing Director Carsten Press, the staged expansion is designed to bring new manufacturing resources online while maintaining a coordinated approach to network development. “Our phased approach enables us to make additional capacity available while systematically expanding our global production network,” Press said. “These investments provide customers with scalable operations, well-managed supply chains, and high-quality aseptic manufacturing to support their long-term growth.”

The expansion comes as pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies continue to seek manufacturing partners capable of supporting injectable products from development through commercial production. Vetter’s additional lines and infrastructure investments are intended to broaden the company’s capacity to serve customers across international markets.
