12th Annual BioProcess International Conference & Exposition Is Largest in Its History

– Global Forum Focused On Advancing Drug Candidates Closer to Approval Faster and More Efficiently Sets Attendance, Exhibitor Records –

The BioProcess International (BPI) Conference & Exposition held October 26-29 boasted the largest attendance in the show’s 12-year history, as scientists and engineers representing 36 states and 29 countries gathered in Boston for the global forum. Hosted by IBC Life Sciences USA, an Informa company, the annual event focused on advancing drug candidates closer to approval and bringing together professionals from big pharma as well as large, mid-size and emerging biotech companies.

This year’s record crowd of 1,750 people reflected a 10% percent increase over last year. Attendees visited 150 exhibits and 165 presentations, each spotlighting cutting-edge solutions aimed at improving the manufacturing process for a host of life-saving drugs. Another conference highlight was the Poster Hall, with 110 peer-submitted scientific posters on display. The never-before-revealed findings brought together leaders from academia and the corporate world who are capable of transforming these innovative concepts into real-life applications.

“The dynamic interchange of ideas and relationship-building opportunities is what draws more attendees to BPI with every passing year,” said Barry Walsh, BPI Conference Director. “BPI is a results-oriented event engineered to achieve the needs of each delegate and exhibitor. We offer an environment that for four days allows professionals to focus on new business development and problem solving while at the same time expanding their horizons with focused technical sessions across distinct disciplines.”

Leading sponsors at BPI 2015 included GE Healthcare Life Sciences, Pall Life Sciences and Roche Custom Biotech. Additional event sponsors included 3M Purification, Bio-Rad Laboratories, EMD Millipore, Sartorius Stedim Biotech and Fujifilm Diosynth Biotechnologies.

A host of interactive exchanges addressed emerging topics of great importance to the industry. Among the most well attended were the Ask the Regulators Open Forum, 15 Bioprocessing Problem-Solving Moderated Discussions, Town Hall Forums, and BPI Theater. Topics covered included industry challenges and regulatory perspectives, but the most popular sessions were the five keynote speeches by prominent industry leaders from Merck, Novartis, Duke University, Amgen, and Genzyme. The featured speakers were:

-David J. Pollard, Ph.D., Executive Director, BioProcess Development, Merck & Co. Inc.

-Spencer Fisk, Global Head, Biologics Process R&D, Novartis Pharma AG, Switzerland

-Michael Anthony (Tony) Moody, M.D., Chief Medical Officer, Associate Professor of Pediatrics, Duke Human Vaccine Institute (DHVI)

Kimball Hall, Vice President Manufacturing, Amgen Singapore Manufacturing Pte. Ltd.

Konstantin Kostantinov, Ph.D., Vice President, Technology Development, Genzyme
